Lacrosse Falls in Season Finale to Susquehanna University, 16-6

Selinsgrove, Pa.-On Saturday afternoon, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team ended the 2011 season as well as Landmark Conference play with a 16-6 defeat to Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. The Crusaders improved to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the league, while the Mariners dropped to 4-12 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.

Kings Point was led by freshman Andrew Kratsch (Caldwell, N.J.) who scored three goals, while senior Robert Atkinson (Fair Haven, N.J.) tallied two in his last game as a Mariner.

The Crusaders were able to open up the offense building up to a 6-1 lead before junior Adam Jerlow (Parker, Colo.) tallied the second USMMA goal at the 8:59 mark of the second quarter, which was assisted by junior Tyler Spaulding (Hollywood, Md.).

Atkinson made the score 6-3 with an unassisted goal at the 4:36 mark of that frame. Susquehanna answered back at the 3:44 mark when Luke Delavan ripped a shot that went past the goalie for the 7-3 lead.

Kratsch would make the game 7-4 on an unassisted goal at the 1:47 mark, before another Crusaders goal by Billy Spack which was assisted by Pete Doelp sending the two teams into half time.

Kings Point would start the third quarter on a Kratsch goal at the 14:45 mark, before seven unanswered goals gave Susquehanna the 15-5 lead. Marcus Cheatham recorded one last Crusaders goal, before Robert Atkinson tallied the final marker of the game making the final score 16-6.

Susquehanna keeper Jordan Daney had five saves in the victory for the Crusaders, while USMMA freshman cager Pat Sullivan (Shoreham, N.Y.) had 13 saves in the loss.
