KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2017) – USMMA senior George Hatzioannides (Oakland Gardens, N.Y.) was chosen to the Skyline Conference men's basketball weekly honor roll, the league announced on Monday. The accolade comes after his performance in the Mariners' two road games last week – a 68-52 win at Hunter on Tuesday and a 79-73 loss at Sarah Lawrence on Thursday.
Hatzioannides ranked first on the team last week with 20.5 points per game. He led all players on Tuesday night at Hunter with 25 points on 57.9% shooting (11-for-19). The senior followed that up with a 16-point performance on Thursday at Sarah Lawrence.
Among Skyline players, Hatzioannides ranks tied for sixth in the conference with 17.7 points per game, while his 2.0 steals per game is tied for fourth and his .547 field goal percentage is good for seventh.
Three other Mariners find themselves ranked in the top-10 in the league through three weeks of action: senior Robbie Kennedy (Spring Lake, N.J.) is tied for first in the Skyline with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio; freshman Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) ranks tied for fourth with Hatzioannides with 2.0 steals per game; and junior David Washington (Frisco, Texas) is fourth in the league with a .582 shooting percentage, eighth with 7.3 rebounds per game and 10th with 1.7 steals per game.
The Mariners are back in action this evening up at arch-rival Coast Guard. The two teams will square off with a point towards the overall standings in the 2017-18 Superintendents' Trophy on the line. Tipoff against the Bears is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at USCGA's Roland Hall in New London, Conn.
