KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2016) – The USMMA men's basketball team earned its first Skyline Conference victory of the season with an amazing come-from-behind victory over Yeshiva, 61-56, on Monday night at the Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners improve to 3-7 overall (1-2 Skyline) with the victory, while the Maccabees fall to 6-4 and suffer their first Skyline loss of the year, dropping to 4-1 in league play.

Merchant Marine trailed by as many as 18 points, 38-20, early in the second half, but rattled off an incredible 20-0 run over nearly nine minutes of action to take a 40-38 lead with 7:50 to play. The two teams traded leads over the next four-and-a-half minutes until the Mariners went ahead for good at 3:14 on a jumper in the paint by senior Hunter Jones (Goodyear, Ariz.).

USMMA built its lead up to six points on two separate occasions in the final minute of play and went 6-for-9 from the free throw line down the stretch to help secure the victory.

Three players scored in double-figures for the Mariners, led by senior Matt Miller (Augusta, Ga.), who tied for the game-high with 18 points. Freshman Connor Green (Flower Mound, Texas) had a big second half, scoring 13 of his 15 total points in the second stanza. Green had seven points during the 20-0 run, and he drained the jumper at 8:24 that tied the game at 38-all. Yeshiva built up its big second half lead thanks in large part to nailing a remarkable 13 three-pointers over the 40 minutes. Sophomore Judah Cohen hit six of those 3's, as he ended the night with 18 points. Senior Jordan Hod finished with nine points, while three other Maccabees added eight points each, including senior Michael Berg, who also led all players by dishing out nine assists and recording three blocks.
