KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2016) – On Friday, USMMA Interim Men's Basketball Head Coach Dennis Kazimir announced the schedule for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign. This season marks Kazimir's third year at the Academy and first year as Interim Coach.

"Our student-athletes and staff are excited and grateful to embrace the adversity and expectations that align with the start of a new season," said Kazimir. "We look forward to positively representing the Academy and our Alumni, as we are welcomed back into the Skyline Conference."

The Mariners will play a total of 25 games over four months, including 16 games against Skyline opponents in the Academy's return to the conference for the first time since the 2006-07 season. Merchant Marine will be a North Division member along with opponents SUNY Maritime, Mount St. Mary, Purchase, Sage and Sarah Lawrence.

This year's slate features 10 games in the friendly confines of Liebertz Gymnasium, while 15 games will take place away from Kings Point.

The squad opens the season with two tournaments on back-to-back weekends, with a local mid-week game sandwiched in between. Action begins at the 2016 Scotty Wood Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 18-19. USMMA then travels to Manhattan on Tuesday, Nov. 22, for a game at Hunter College, followed by the 2016 Harbor Invitational hosted by UMass-Boston in Boston, Mass., Friday-Saturday, Nov. 25-26.

The Mariners' home-opener will be on Thursday, Dec. 1 against Skyline divisional opponent Sarah Lawrence. Two road games follow at SUNY Maritime (Dec. 3) in the Bronx and at Trinity (Dec. 5) in Connecticut.

The highly-anticipated Superintendents' Trophy contest against arch-rival Coast Guard will return to Kings Point this year on Wednesday, Dec. 7. After falling to the Bears last season, 88-80, on the road, the Mariners will strive to capture the point in the overall trophy standings – as they did back in 2014-15.

December concludes with back-to-back home games against Yeshiva (Dec. 12) and Widener (Dec. 17).

13 of the next 14 games – including every game in January – will be against Skyline opponents, as the Mariners play Mount St. Mary (away Jan. 4 & home Feb. 14), Sage (away Jan. 7 & home Feb. 11), Purchase (home Jan. 11 & away Feb. 18), St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (away Jan. 14), St. Joseph's-L.I. (home Jan. 17), Old Westbury (away Jan. 25), Farmingdale State (home Jan. 28), and Mount St. Vincent (away Jan. 31).

February starts at home with action against local divisional rival SUNY Maritime on Saturday, Feb. 4. The men's basketball program will celebrate Alumni Day on Feb. 4, with an Alumni Game taking place in the morning before the Mariners host the Privateers.

The final month of the regular season continues with two road games at Rutgers-Camden (Feb. 6) and at Sarah Lawrence (Feb. 8). USMMA's Senior Day will be held before the Mariners' scheduled conference game against Sage on Saturday, Feb. 11.

After hosting Mount St. Mary the following Tuesday, Feb. 14, the regular season comes to a close on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Purchase.

The top two seeds in the Skyline Conference at the end of the regular season will earn a bye through the first round of the Skyline Tournament. The opening round will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, and will feature the #6 seed at the #3 seed and the #5 seed at #4. The Skyline Semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 23, with the Championship Game slated for Saturday, Feb. 25. The winner of the Skyline Tournament Championship will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins in early March.

Admission to all Mariner home games is FREE, and home contest will feature live stats as well as a live video feed. Links to follow along with all home games can be found on the USMMA Men's Basketball Schedule Page.
