The USMMA men's basketball team received two first-place votes but was ultimately picked to finish fourth in the 2013-14 Landmark Conference preseason coaches' poll.  Scranton was selected as the league's preseason favorite while Juniata and Catholic narrowly edged out the Mariners for the second and third positions, respectively.  USMMA will be looking for a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament for the second straight year and for the third time in four seasons.

Merchant Marine returns a frontcourt that was among the NCAA leaders in blocked shots, including an All-Landmark Conference Second-Team selection in senior Nick Sergio (Patchogue, NY).  Andrew Williams (Lantana, TX) and Scott Dennin (Gilbertsville, PA) will both enter their sophomore seasons at the Academy after playing significant minutes in the frontcourt as freshmen. USMMA will also have second-year guard George Hatzioannides (Oakland Gardens, NY), who started 11 games as a rookie, on the floor to help replace losses to graduation.

Merchant Marine will open the season November 15 against RIT at the Maritime Classic in Throggs Neck, NY and will have their first home game November 25 against rival Maritime (NY).
