Setting the Scene...
The USMMA men's basketball team travels to Maryland for a key Landmark Conference clash with Goucher on Saturday night.  Both teams sit just one game out of the league's final playoff spot as the 2012-13 season enters the home stretch.  The Mariners will play three of their final four games at home, all against conference opposition.  Merchant Marine enters its meeting with the Gophers having lost four of its last five while Goucher will be looking to snap a six game losing streak.

Series History... Merchant Marine currently leads the all-time series against Goucher, 9-4, after the Gophers downed USMMA earlier this season.  The Mariners are looking to avenge a 59-50 loss that opened conference play in December.  USMMA swept the season series from Goucher in the 2011-12 campaign.

1,000 Points... Reed Buck (Lawrenceville, GA) sunk a free throw late in the second half against Wesleyan (CT) on Monday night, scoring his 1,000th point in a Mariner uniform. Buck's 22-point performance was the ninth time this year he eclipsed 20 points in a game.  Buck is the reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Year and currently leads the league in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game.

Cleaning the Glass... Merchant Marine ranks first in the Landmark Conference in rebounding and rebounding margin this season.  USMMA pulls down 41.6 boards per game and is out-rebounding opponents by an average of 7.0 boards per game.  Individually, Nick Sergio (Patchogue, NY) ranks second in the league on the glass, hauling in 7.7 rebounds per game.

Block Parties... The Mariners are the top shot blocking team in the league and currently rank tenth in the nation, tallying 5.2 blocks per game.  Andrew Williams (Lantana, TX) sends back an average of 2.05 shots per game, making him 31st in NCAA Division III.  Merchant Marine rejected  nine shots, including four from Williams and four from Scott Dennin (Gilbertsville, PA), last week against #10 Catholic.

Up Next... USMMA will begin a three-game homestand Wednesday night as they host Moravian at 7:00 pm inside O'Hara Hall.
