Mariners to Honor Veteran Players This Weekend On “Senior Day”

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The United States Merchant Marine Academy men's basketball team returns home this weekend to host Scranton University on Friday night and Moravian College on Saturday afternoon as the Mariners fight for a Landmark Conference playoff spot. Saturday's 4:00 p.m. contest will also be "Senior Day," as the Mariners invite everyone to honor three senior players, Kevin Kerr, Denver Effland and Patrick Farrell, and their contributions to the Kings Point Basketball program.

Guard Kevin Kerr, leading the Mariners in assists this season with an average of 3.3 per game, is also second on the team in both free-throw percentage (80.6%) and points per game (7.7) this season. Denver Effland, who has started 14 games at forward for the Mariners this season, is tied with Kevin Kerr for the second highest free-throw percentage on the team at 80.6 and is also second on the team in blocks per game (0.8). Forward Patrick Farrell averaged 4.8 points per game with a 60% free-throw percentage and is 11-41 from three-point range for the Mariners so far this season.
