Trio Of Mariners Selected As ECAC DIII South Football All-Stars

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 23, 2016) – Earlier this month, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Division III South ECAC All-Stars and three members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy football team were honored – sophomore fullback Wiley Martin (Polo, Mo.) and senior offensive lineman Parker Johnson (Middletown, Md.) earned Second Team Offense accolades, while senior defensive back Patrick Keyes (Parsippany, N.J.) was selected to the Third Team Defense.

Martin, a First Team All-Liberty League selection, was the Mariners' second-ranked rusher this season with 633 yards on the ground. The sophomore also found the end zone a total of nine times. His 70.3 rushing yards per game ranked seventh in the Liberty League and he was also seventh in the conference in scoring with 6.0 points per game.

Johnson was also a First-Team All-Liberty Offense selection. He was a member of the USMMA O-Line that helped lead the squad to the third-best rushing offensive in all of Division III. The Mariners averaged 299.9 rushing yards per game over their nine games this season and ranked behind only Washington & Lee (390.3ypg) and Salisbury (376.7ypg). Thanks to Johnson's strong efforts on the offensive line, Merchant Marine also ranked in the top 10 in the nation both sacks allowed and tackles for loss allowed, coming in at seventh in both categories with 0.67 sacks allowed per game and 3.89 tackles for loss allowed per game.

Keyes closed out his career with a team-best 64 tackles during the 2016 season (40 solo and 24 assisted), earning him All-Liberty First Team Defense accolades. Of his 64 tackles, two were for losses of combined six yards. The senior had one interception on the year, while also breaking up three passes and blocking one kick. Keyes' 7.1 tackles per game ranked 14th in the Liberty League.
