Liberty League Selects Moore To Weekly Football Honor Roll

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2016) – On Monday, the Liberty League announced that USMMA junior quarterback Robert Moore (Pace, Fla.) was selected to the conference's weekly football honor roll for his performance in the Mariners' tough 38-35 road loss at Hobart this past Saturday.

This is the third time that Moore has been honored by the league, as he earned this same accolade back on Sept. 12 and was named the Liberty Offensive Player of the Week last Monday, Sept. 26.

On Saturday, Moore recorded 112 rushing yards and scored twice for the Mariners, while also throwing for 60 yards on 6-of-10 passing. His second TD rush of the game with under a minute to go in the fourth quarter put Merchant Marine ahead 35-31.

Moore remains the Liberty League's leading rusher and ranks 13th in the nation with 139.8 yards per game. He also ranks second in the conference and 29th in the country with six rushing touchdowns. Sophomore Wiley Martin (Polo, Mo.) is the league's leader with seven rushing TDs, which ranks him 17th among NCAA DIII players.

In overall scoring, Martin ranks second in the conference and 33rd in the nation with 10.5 points per game, while Moore is tied for third in the Liberty with 9.0 per game. Freshman Joseph Vitelli (Warrington, Pa.) is the Liberty's top kick returner with 354 yards (23.6 per game) and his combined 416 return yards (kickoff and punt) rank him 14th in the nation.

Defensively, seniors Ian Stoner (Glen Allen, Va.) and Josh Woodburn (Huntingtown, Md.) are in the top 10 in the Liberty League in tackles for losses per game, as Stoner is tied for fifth (1.50) and Woodburn ranks eighth (1.38). Senior Channing Meyer (Norman, Okla.) is second in the conference with 1.50 passes defended per game

As a team, the Mariner offense leads the nation in rushing offense with 381.0 yards per game and tackles for loss allowed (2.25 per game). Merchant Marine is also in the top 10 in the country in the following categories: second in third down conversion percentage (59.7-percent), second in kickoff return defense (8.8 yards per return), fifth in passing yards per completion (20.13 yards), sixth in sacks allowed (0.5 per game) and ninth in team passing efficiency (185.65).
