Coach Toop To Be Honored By New York Blood Center For Platelet Donations

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2016) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 12th-year head football coach Mike Toop has been invited to attend a platelet donor recognition breakfast & awards ceremony this week at the Battery Gardens Harbor View Restaurant in Manhattan.

The top donors in the New York City Metropolitan Area, including Coach Toop, will be recognized at the event. Awards will be given to the donors who have donated numerous times.

This past year, Coach Toop donated frequently enough where he gave the maximum amount of plasma allowed. He has been called on on occasion by the NYBC to donate white blood cells and platelets to patients that are a specific match and in dire need. While both are very important, platelet donations are in bigger demand than blood donations.

For more information, or to find out how to become a blood or platelet donor, visit the New York Blood Center website at www.nybloodcenter.org.
