Mariners Place Four on All-Liberty League Teams

Complete Liberty League Release

Tyler Washington (Chatham, NY), Michael Biehn (The Woodlands, TX), Ben Runchey (Springboro, OH), and Matthew Morse (Covington, LA) were all selected as All-Liberty League players following the 2013 season.  Seniors Washington and Biehn both earned spots on the All-Liberty League First-Team while Runchey and Morse were named to the second-team.  The Mariners also had four athletes receive All-Liberty League Honorable Mention accolades, including Matthew Berglund (North Kingstown, RI), Matthew McDaniels (Malverne, NY), Patrick Clarke (Tampa, FL) and Skyler Stone (Glen Allen, VA).

Washington earned his second straight bid to the All-Liberty League First-Team after a season in which he averaged 6.6 tackles per game and was the Mariners leading tackler in the secondary.  Biehn was USMMA's overall leader in tackling as the linebacker racked up 66 stops and recorded three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a blocked kick.

Runchey's spot on the second-team offensive line follows a regular season in which Merchant Marine ranked second in the Liberty League in rushing yards per game.  Morse rounds out the Mariners selected to All-Liberty League teams as the senior defensive end averaged over six tackles per game, recovered two fumbles, and batted down three passes at the line of scrimmage.

USMMA finished the 2013 season at 4-4, the second straight season the Mariners have posted a .500 record, and defeated Coast Guard in the annual battle for the Secretaries' Cup.
