5 Mariners teams hit the road this weekend

After a heavy home schedule for the first two weekends of the fall season, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's teams hit the road on a busy weekend, especially on Saturday.

 

A quick look at the events:

 

Football

 

Coming  off that dramatic and rousing 35-28 triumph over archrival Coast Guard, the Mariners (1-1) will play their first away game at SUNY-Maritime (1-1) at 1 p.m. Coach Mike Toop's men will seek to turn around a 41-loss from last season.

Seth Cantor will handle the play-by-play and Jaden Daly will be the color analyst. The pre-game show is set for 12:30 p.m., followed by the opening kickoff at 1 p.m.

Soccer

The Mariners (4-1) play their first game out of the New York-New Jersey area at Goucher College (2-3) in Towson, Md. At 1 p.m. Kings Point, which recorded a 5-0 home victory over Farmingdale State College on Wednesday, is ranked sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Mid-Atlantic Division III men's poll.

Volleyball

The women (3-3) will try to get back to their winning ways at the Maritime Volleyball Classic in Throggs Neck, N.Y. this weekend. They face Maine Maritime at 5 p.m. Saturday before taking on Massachusetts Maritime at 1 p.m. Sunday and then SUNY-Maritime at 3 p.m.

Men's and women's cross country

After very impressive showings at Purchase College Invitational, the men's and women's teams will be in action at the C.W. Post Cross Country Invitational in Brookville, N.Y. The meet will also serve as the preview event for the D-II ECC Championship and will be hosting the top D-II teams throughout the eastern region.
