KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 23, 2018) – On Wednesday, D3baseball.com unveiled its All-America Teams for the 2018 NCAA Division III baseball season and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy junior starting pitcher Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) was selected as a Third Team All-American.
This news comes days after both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced their All-New York Region Teams and Spinnenweber earned First Team Honors for both, while freshman starting pitcher Joe Raab (Edwardsburg, Mich.) was named Second Team ABCA All-Region and Third Team D3baseball.com All-Region.

This is the third time in USMMA baseball program history that a Mariner has earned D3baseball.com All-America honors, as Spinnenweber joins former Merchant Marine greats second baseman Warren Hartmann '14 (Third Team in 2014) and outfielder Davey May '09 (First Team in 2009) with the special distinctions.
Earlier this month, Spinnenweber was selected as the Skyline Conference Pitcher of the Year and landed on the All-Skyline First Team. The junior currently ranks in the top-10 among all NCAA Division III pitchers in four categories – his 13.17 strikeouts per nine innings ranks sixth, his six complete games are good for seventh in the nation, his 5.32 hits allowed per nine innings is eighth and his 0.9 walks and hits per innings pitched (WHIP) rank ninth. He also ranks 12th in the country with 99 total strikeouts and his 1.73 earned run average is 34th in Division III.
Spinnenweber set numerous career-highs in 2018 with a 1.73 ERA, 99 strikeouts, a .166 opponent batting average, 67.2 innings pitched, six complete games and tying for the team-high with seven victories, as he ended the season with a 7-3 record. The right-hander has earned many accolades throughout his career – he was a Second Team All-Landmark selection after his freshman season and he has picked up numerous conference and regional weekly honors in three seasons.
Raab was chosen earlier this month by the Skyline head coaches as the conference's Rookie of the Year and, like Spinnenweber, was also an All-Skyline First Teamer. The lefty ended the year with a 7-3 record and a 1.93 earned run average and he tossed the most innings pitched of any Skyline pitcher (70.0). His 1.93 ERA currently ranks 47th in the nation among all DIII pitchers.
The rookie was a four-time weekly honoree throughout his freshman campaign – earning Skyline Pitcher of the Week twice (with one ECAC regional recognition for that award) and Skyline Rookie of the Week twice as well (and one ECAC recognition for that award as well).
