Notebaert Announces Addition Of Brian Corbo As Mariners’ Pitching Coach

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2016) – Earlier this month, Brian Corbo joined the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball coaching staff as the Mariners' pitching coach, ninth-year head coach Michael Notebaert announced. Corbo has over 15 years of coaching experience, both on the collegiate and high school levels.

"I am truly honored and privileged to become a part of the athletic department staff here at the United States Merchant Marine Academy," said Corbo. "I want to thank Athletic Director Mo White, Head Baseball Coach Mike Notebaert and the rest of the administration for this opportunity. I look forward to contributing greatly to all facets of the baseball program and the athletic department as a whole."

Corbo joins the Mariners' staff after a seven-year stint as the head varsity baseball coach at nearby Manhasset High School. He led the Indians to the Nassau Conference A-IV Championship in both 2012 and 2013 and his team was the Nassau County Semifinalists in 2012 and 2015. He was twice named the Conference A-IV Coach of the Year and the Indians' baseball program was recognized as New York State All-Academic Team all six years he was at the helm.

Previous coaching stops include being the pitching and strength coach at Division II Adelphi University from 2005-09, as well as being the pitching coach at Felician College for the 2005 season. He has also held positions at Glen Cove High School and Virginia Wesleyan College, acting as pitching coach at both institutions.

With the Panthers at Adelphi, Corbo was a member of the 2007 and 2009 ECC Conference Championship coaching staff. The Panthers were the 2009 North East Regional runners up and the 2007 North East Regional finalist. Corbo produced a pitching staff that was nationally ranked in the Top-25 each year, including a national number two ranking in 2009. His pitching staff also finished fifth in total strikeouts for all of Division II in 2008.

A former Division III standout at Virginia Wesleyan College, Corbo is the Marlins' only four-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection in program history (1998-2001). He was also a two-time All-South Region honoree for the ABCA (1999-2000).

In 2002, Corbo signed a professional contract with the Albany Colonie Diamond Dogs. He has also pitched in the Coastal Plains Collegiate Summer League for the Outer Banks Daredevils.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with the addition of Coach Corbo to our staff," commented Notebaert. "His ability to teach the game and slow things down for players will be an invaluable asset to our pitching staff and team in general. He's a great baseball mind and I'm excited to have him in the dugout to help us continue to work toward our goal of winning a championship."

A 2001 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College, Corbo is a native of Glen Cove, N.Y. He currently resides in Williston Park, N.Y. with his wife Jahn, son AJ and daughter Julie.
