KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 30, 2016) – The USMMA baseball team lost both games of a home Landmark Conference doubleheader against Moravian on Saturday, as the Mariners were edged in the first game, 2-1, before falling in the second, 5-0. Merchant Marine falls to 11-23 (6-14 Landmark) on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 20-19 (13-7 Landmark) with the wins.

The first game was a pitchers' duel between junior Patrick Morgan (Roxboro, N.C.) and Moravian freshman Rhett Jacoby. Moravian had two singles in the first inning, including an RBI hit by freshman Austin Markowski that opened the scoring in the game.

The Mariners led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle by junior Matthew Thomson (Memphis, Tenn.). After freshman Tyler Mowry (Peachtree City, Ga.) moved Thomson over to second on a sacrifice bunt, Thomson scored to tie the game on a pair of errors on the same play by the Greyhounds' second baseman that allowed sophomore Bryson Campbell (Cool, Calif.) to reach.

The Greyhounds added another run in the top of the fifth after another multi-hit inning and Jacoby shut the last nine Mariner batters down in order over the next three innings to earn the victory. He improved his record to 7-2 on the season after hurling seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing an unearned run and striking out six.
