ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (April 16, 2016) – The USMMA baseball team split a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Elizabethtown on Saturday, dropping the first game, 3-2, but rebounding to take the second, 4-3. The split moves the Mariners' record to 9-18 (5-9 Landmark).
The Mariners came close to changing the outcome of the first game, but left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning. Junior starter Patrick Morgan (Roxboro, N.C.) suffered the loss after hurling six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.
In the second game, freshman starter Andrew Spinnenweber (Pasadena, Md.) tossed his second-straight complete game victory, as he allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out eight Blue Jay batters. Classmate Braden Barnett (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) hit two home runs in the game and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs. His solo shot in the top of the seventh came on the first pitch of the inning – it wound up being the game-winner. Freshman Jesse Reinebold (Granger, Ind.) batted in the Mariners' first run of the game with a double to left center.
Complete release to follow later in the day on Saturday.
The Mariners will close out the three-game series tomorrow, Sunday, April 17, with a single, nine-inning game beginning at 12-noon back at ETown's Kevin Scott Boyd Stadium. Live stats are available for the contest by following this link (an alternate live stats link is available by clicking here).
