SCRANTON, Pa. (April 13, 2016) – The USMMA baseball team closed out its Landmark series with Scranton on Wednesday afternoon losing by the score of 11-0. With the loss, the Mariners fall to 8-17 (4-8 Landmark) on the year and the Royals improve to 11-12 (6-6 Landmark).
Sophomore Michael Barnes (Alexandria, Va.) led the way for the Mariners going 2-for-4 at the plate. Four other Mariners contributed a hit in the afternoon – freshmen Tyler Mowry (Peachtree City, Ga.), Jesse Reinbold (Granger, Ind.) and Zack Winzer (Muskegon, Mich.) and sophomore Steve Lucy (Leawood, Kan.).
Junior Nathan Slusarczyk (Woodbury, N.J.) suffered the loss for the Mariners finishing the day with four innings pitched, letting up five runs (four earned) and earning one strikeout. Sophomore Justus Martin (Eaton, Colo.) tossed two innings of relief and gave up one run on just two hits.
For the Royals, junior Sean McNamara hurled a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and striking out three. Sophomore Chase Standen knocked in a game-high three runs for Scranton.
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Elizabethtown this weekend for a three-game Landmark Conference series against the Blue Jays. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Live stats for all three games this weekend are available on the USMMA baseball schedule page.
