Patchogue, NY - The USMMA baseball team returned to the field, after missing the weekend due to weather, Thursday night but dropped an 11-4 decision at St. Joseph's (LI). Warren Hartmann (Wyckoff, NJ) paced the offense with two doubles, two RBI, and one run scored in the loss. The Golden Eagles scored 11 runs on just seven hits as the Mariner pitching staff surrendered eight walks.
Merchant Marine (9-6-1) got on the board in the top of the first as Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY) knocked a single to right-center field, bringing home Matthew Thomson (Memphis, TN). Hartmann doubled in Andrew MacKinnon (Buffalo, NY), who scored twice on the night, to knot the game at 2-2 in the top of the third. The Mariners rallied from two runs down in the fifth as Hartmann and Jake Martin (San Diego, CA) both delivered RBI hits.
St. Joseph's (LI) (6-10) broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs against the USMMA bullpen. Thomas Rubenstein supplied the biggest hit of the frame with a two-run double down the right field line. The home team added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and the bullpen would keep the USMMA bats quiet to secure the 11-4 victory for the Golden Eagles.
The USMMA baseball team is scheduled to play three Landmark Conference games this weekend against Drew. Saturday's double header is set for 12:00 PM at the College of Staten Island while Sunday's game will be played at 12:00 PM at Mitchell Field on the campus of Nassau Community College in Hempstead, NY.
