Mariners Finish in NCAA Top 40 of Five Statistical Categories
Kings Point, NY – The United States Merchant Marine Academy baseball squad, which finished the 2013 campaign as Landmark Conference regular season co-champions, ranked 37th or higher in five NCAA D-III statistical categories:

15th - Stolen Bases per Game: 2.57
16th - Batting Average: .326
32nd - Total Stolen Bases: 95
35th - Doubles per Game: 2.05
37th - Runs per Game: 7.1
Most notable was the Mariners' .326 team batting average, which ranked 16th in all of D-III. In comparison, they were the only team in the Landmark Conference to compile an average over .300.
Junior infielders Warren Hartmann (Wyckoff, NJ) and Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY) helped lead the charge as they finished as the top two hitters in terms of batting average in the Landmark Conference, as the only Landmark batters to hit .400 on the season.
Hartmann's average of .435 was the 14th best individual average in all of D-III, while Collins' mark of .403 ranked 63rd.
Merchant Marine also led the conference in on-base percentage (.394) and slugging percentage (.411).
The Mariners did a good job of giving opposing managers and catchers fits on the base paths, placing 15th overall in stolen bases per game. Nabbing an average of 2.57 bags per game, Merchant Marine's 95 total stolen bases was also tops in the Landmark Conference, and ranked 32nd in the NCAA.
Leading the way once again was Hartmann and Collins, who stole a total of 25 and 16 bags respectively. Hartmann's total of .71 stolen bases per game ranks 26th in NCAA D-III.
Sophomore outfielder Cameron Stadele also played a large role in the team's stolen bag total, amassing 13 to rank seventh in the Landmark Conference.
Merchant Marine also ranked 35th in doubles per game, averaging 2.05 two-baggers per contest. Helping the cause for Kings Point once again was Hartmann who led the Landmark Conference with 19 doubles, and Stadele who ranks fifth in the conference with 11. Hartmann's total places him 18th in NCAA D-III and his average of .54 doubles per game ranks sixth.
Finally, the Mariners also rank 37th in NCAA D-III in runs per game, averaging 7.1 with a total of 264. Hartmann, Collins, and Stadele led the Mariners in run scoring, coming across home plate 37,34, and 32 times respectively, accounting for over one third of the team's total runs scored.
