Collins Earns Spot on Capital One Academic All-America Third-Team

Complete Capital One Academic All-America Division III Baseball Release and Teams

USMMA junior Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third-Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Collins becomes the second player in the history of the Merchant Marine baseball program to earn Academic All-America accolades as Ryan Vanderberg earned the same honors in 1992 and 1993.

The awards program recognizes student-athletes for their accomplishments athletically as well as in the classroom.  Collins finished the 2013 season with a .403 batting average and 39 RBI along with his superb work in the classroom, currently holding a 3.79 cumulative GPA in Logistics & Intermodal Transportation.

Earlier this year Collins was voted to to the All-Landmark Conference First-Team after finishing the 2013 campaign in the league's top-five in nine different offensive categories, including a conference leading 58 hits.  After his junior season he needs just 34 hits and 36 RBI to surpass current all-time Academy career records.
