Mariners Fall to Drew, Face Elimination in Game Two

The United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners were upended by the Drew University Bears by a score of 2-0 in the winner's bracket of the Landmark Conference Championship double elimination tournament.

Kings Point didn't have an answer for Bears sophomore Alex Taylor who allowed four hits and struck out seven in nine shutout innings.  Mariner's junior hurler Dustin Thomsen went pitch for pitch with Taylor, throwing nine innings and striking out five.

The Bears took an early lead when senior infielder Pete Tuchol singled to right field to drive in the first run of the game.  The Bears would tack on a late run in the fifth, and that's all they would need to advance to Monday's final games with an unblemished playoff tournament record.

The Mariners will take on top-seeded and host school Moravian College at 4:00 PM today.  The winner will face off against Drew University Monday, May 7th at 11:00am, while the loser will be eliminated.  In order for the Mariners to take home the Landmark Conference title, they must defeat Moravian this afternoon and defeat Drew twice on Monday.
