KINGS POINT, N.Y. – On Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy baseball squad dropped its non-conference season finale match-up to the College of Mount St. Vincent, 6-3 at Lower Roosevelt Field in Kings Point, N.Y. With the win, the Dolphins improved to 17-23 overall. Following the loss, the Mariners fell to 15-15-1 overall.

Down 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning, freshman SS Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) evened the contest up with an RBI single to plate rookie 2B Warren Hartmann (Wyckoff, N.J.). The game would remain 2-all until the bottom of the seventh.

In that frame, USMMA freshman 3B Andrew MacKinnon (Buffalo, N.Y.) scorched a triple to right centerfield and scored junior RF Vincent Trezza (Stockton, Calif.). The Mariners took their first lead of the game, 3-2.

That lead, however, didn't last very long as the Dolphins scored four runs in the next inning to take a 6-3 advantage. All Mount St. Vincent's scoring was achieved on three singles.

On the hill, rookie starter John Kret (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) turned in a solid game (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K) and received the no-decision. Junior Mike Phipps (Ocala, Fla.) was strapped with the loss out of the bullpen (1-1 record).

This concludes the 2011 season for Head Coach Michael Notebaert and the Mariners. For all the offseason news and notes pertaining to the Kings Point baseball program, please continue to monitor
