KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2026) – The USMMA women's volleyball team made quick work of Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College on Thursday night at the Liebertz Gymnasium, rolling to a 3-0 victory by scores of 25-6, 25-13 and 25-11. The Mariners improved to 12-2 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 3-0, while the Panthers fell to 5-6 (0-1 Skyline).

USMMA featured a balanced offensive attack, led by junior
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) with five kills on 11 errorless swings for a .455 hitting percentage. Freshmen
Sophie Phillips (Huffman, Texas) and
Lanae DuBose (Baytown, Texas) each put down four kills on five swings for a .800 percentage, while junior
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added four kills at a .500 clip and freshman
Candy Saz-Price (Cabot, Ark.) finished with four kills while hitting .429. The Mariners hit .391 as a team with 32 kills against just seven errors.

Savannah Smith (El Paso, Texas) handed out a team-high 14 assists and classmate
Miranda Zeng (Cupertino, Calif.) added 10, while the Mariners overwhelmed Purchase from the service line with 16 aces. Smith and DuBose served four aces apiece, Saz-Price added three and Douglas chipped in two. Freshman
Lauren Cassels (West Milford, N.J.) led all players with eight digs.
The Mariners seized control immediately in the opening set, racing out to a 10-1 advantage before extending the margin to 18-4. USMMA hit .364 in the frame and closed out the dominant 25-6 win on a Phillips kill.
Purchase briefly led 3-1 in the second, but USMMA answered with seven-straight points to take an 8-3 advantage and never looked back. The Mariners later stretched the lead to 17-6 before finishing off a 25-13 victory to move within one set of the sweep.
USMMA saved its best offensive set for last, pounding down 12 kills against just one error for a .647 hitting percentage in the third. The Mariners led 17-8 before another extended run pushed the advantage to 24-8, and Douglas eventually delivered the match-clinching kill for the 25-11 victory. Purchase finished the night with just 10 kills against 22 errors and was held to a negative-.182 hitting percentage.
The Mariners have the weekend off before returning to action on Tuesday night, Oct. 6, when they host Skyline Conference rival SUNY Maritime in the first meeting of the annual Tomb Trophy competition between the two schools.
