Sophomore
Aaron Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) led the Mariners with a double-double, registering 11 points and 10 rebounds, while classmate
Tim Barton (Waldorf, Md.) scored nine points and brought down six boards. Fellow sophomore
Mason Lavergne (Baton Rouge, La.) chipped in with eight points.
USMMA struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the opening half, as Farmingdale State controlled the tempo early and built several small leads while the Mariners worked through missed shots and second-chance opportunities. Despite multiple extra possessions generated by Lavergne and Zalescik on the offensive glass, Kings Point was unable to capitalize consistently, trailing by as many as seven before closing the half down four, 23–19.
The Mariners looked to respond after the break, but Farmingdale opened the second half with a decisive run that quickly pushed the margin into double figures. USMMA continued to battle defensively and generated stops, yet long stretches without a field goal allowed the visitors to stretch the lead to as many as 21 midway through the period.
Late in the game, Kings Point showed resilience, trimming the deficit with improved ball movement and defensive rebounding, but the hole proved too large to overcome. While USMMA remained competitive in effort throughout, Farmingdale State maintained control down the stretch to secure the road win.
Farmingdale State shot 33.3 percent from the field and held a plus-15 advantage on the glass, finishing with 56 rebounds. The Mariners shot 26.2 percent overall, while Farmingdale also held edges in points in the paint (28–22) and second-chance points (13–10). The visitors controlled the game for nearly the entire 40 minutes, as the lead never changed throughout the afternoon.
The Rams was led by senior Michael Notias with 15 points and nine rebounds, while junior Kentrell Evans recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Sean Conroy added eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists, and junior Derek Reed chipped in five points on perfect shooting from the field.
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday night, Jan. 14, when they travel to face St. Joseph's-Brooklyn beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bears' Hill Center Gymnasium.
