Mariners Earn Split At Vassar Tri-Match

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Nov. 8, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team earned a split in Saturday's tri-match at Vassar College. The Mariners fell to the host Brewers, 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 18-25, 14-25) in their first match before rallying for a 3-1 victory in their second of the afternoon (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-16) over Hunter College. The Mariners improve to 16-10 overall on the season.

In the opener against the Brewers, the Blue and Gray offense was led by junior Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas), who smashed a team-high 10 kills. Freshman Sofia Dohr (Austerlitz, N.Y.) chipped in eight kills while sophomore Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) added four kills, five aces, and 12 digs. Freshman Emma Borlie (Baltimore, Md.) handed out 16 assists and junior Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) added 12 assists.
 
Defensively, senior libero Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players with 22 digs, while sophomore Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded a game-high seven total blocks.
 
Against Hunter, Douglas led the charge with 13 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, while Stillinger added eight kills and two aces. Sophomore Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) posted eight kills and seven total blocks while Dohr smashed 10 kills and recorded three blocks. Freshman Carly Soboloski (Peoria, Ariz.) contributed nine kills, three service aces, and seven digs. Borlie dished 28 assists with two service aces and Tipps added 15 assists.
 
Defensively, Schatzman once again anchored the defense with 22 digs.
 
In match two, USMMA totaled 56 kills and 11 service aces while hitting .193 as a team.
 
Merchant Marine has earned a first-round bye and will return to action as the #2-seed this Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Skyline Semifinals.
