Women’s Soccer Falls to St. Joseph’s-L.I. In Skyline Semifinals

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2025) – The second-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's soccer team fell 2-0 to third-seeded St. Joseph's Long Island in the Skyline Conference semifinals on Wednesday evening at Bartoszek Field. The Mariners close out their season 9-4-4, while the Golden Eagles improve to 12-3-3 and advance to the Skyline Championship Game on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles struck early in the 17th minute when Emily Farrington converted a feed from Savannah Modica to make it 1-0. Sophomore Lauren Enterline (Harrisburg, Pa.) had an opportunity for an equalizer in the 35th minute, but her well-placed strike was denied by Kristin Vahle. Three minutes later, junior Faith Sammons (Aubrey, Texas) almost knotted it up at one in the 38th minute, but Vahle stopped her header off a corner.

St. Joseph's Long Island got some insurance in the 46th minute on an own goal to extend their lead to 2-0. Senior Morgan Mitchell (Amory, Miss.) had a chance to cut the deficit to one in the 85th minute, but her header was sent just wide as the Golden Eagles would hold on after to win it 2-0.

St. Joseph's Long Island outshot the Merchant Marine 15-8 and held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Eva Fields (Williamsburg, Va.) finished with six saves in 90 minutes of action, including five stops in the second half. Vahle recorded three saves to earn the clean sheet for St. Joseph's.
