BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming team opened its 2025-26 campaign with a strong showing at a quad-meet hosted by Skyline Conference opponent Sarah Lawrence on Saturday, earning victories over both SUNY Maritime (108-76) and the host Gryphons (113-29). Bard College was also at the event, but did not compete for a score against the Mariners.

The Mariners won eight of the day's 11 events, headlined by several standout swims and a pair of relay triumphs to start and close the meet.

USMMA opened with an emphatic win in the 200 medley relay, as juniors
Abraham Shim (Rockwall, Texas),
Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.) and
Jacob Socarras (Winter Springs, Fla.) along with sophomore
John Frank (Highland, Md.) combined for a time of 1:39.74.

Sophomore
Brendan Baser (Cary, Ill.) swept the distance freestyle events, taking the 1000 free in 10:32.45 and later touching first in the 500 free at 5:09.49.

Junior
Jason Equiano (Yonkers, N.Y.) posted a pair of victories, leading a 1-2 Academy finish in the 200 free (1:51.67) ahead of junior
Luke Frank (Highland, Md.) and returning to win the 100 free in 49.42.

Shim earned another win in the 200 individual medley (2:07.85) and later added the top spot in the 100 backstroke (56.43) to complete a two-event sweep.

USMMA closed the day with another dominant relay, as Equiano, J. Frank, Baser and junior
Peyton Harbin (Rockwall, Texas) claimed the 200 free relay in 1:32.75.

The Mariners return to action on Friday, Nov. 14, when they host a Skyline Conference quad-meet against Mount St. Mary, SUNY Maritime and St. Joseph's-L.I. at the O'Hara Pool in Kings Point. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
