OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2024) – The USMMA men's basketball team lost its road Skyline showdown at Old Westbury on Monday night, 65-50. The loss drops the Mariners' record to 9-15 (6-9 Skyline), while the Panthers improve to 2-22 (2-13 Skyline) with the win.

Junior Drew Zalescik (Lambertville, N.J.) led three Mariners in double-figures by draining 20 points as part of a double-double effort with a game-high 14 rebounds. Seniors Bryce Bristow (Plano, Texas) and DeMarcus Spivey (Ashburn, Va.) contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
The Mariners led 31-20 at halftime, but Old Westbury exploded out of the halftime break. The hosts outscored Merchant Marine, 14-2, in the opening five-plus minutes of the second to take a 34-33 lead.
 
The Panthers extended their advantage to 10 points, 49-39 at 8:43, after another big run, this time 15-6. The Mariners were able to cut the deficit to seven with three-straight points, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the night.
 
For OW, junior Amadi Lee-Kane scored a game-high 27 points, while sophomore Chris Smith added 13 and senior Jordan Johnson-Rader chipped in with 10 points to go along with 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
The Mariners close out the regular season this Saturday, Feb. 17, with a home game against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn beginning at 1 p.m. inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. Prior to tipoff, the men's basketball program will pay tribute to its three graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony.
