Mariners finish up on a winning note, down RPI, 31-24; 1st win in Troy since 1960
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrapped up its season on a winning note on Saturday, winning at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the first time since 1960. Junior quarterback Alex Coviello ran for 135 yards and threw for 164 and three touchdowns to lead the Mariners to a 31-24 Liberty victory over RPI in the season finale for both teams.

Raising money to battle pediatric cancer is not a hairy situation for the football team
The football team had a close shave on Friday afternoon, and the Mariners didn’t even play a game. Some 60 members of the team ventured down to the U.S. Merchant Marine barbershop to get their heads shaved to raise money for Mikey Lograno-Weinstein, a five-year-old from Rockaway Beach, N.Y. who has pediatric brain cancer.

Athletics Department Changes Venue for Varsity Awards Due to Structural Changes; Award Winners to be Announced Starting Next Week

Men’s 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team Qualifies for ECAC Outdoor Championships
SWARTHMORE, Pa. – On Saturday, the United States Merchant Marine Academy men’s outdoor track & field squad competed at a very high caliber “Last Chance Meet” at Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, Pa. The meet consisted of athletes from Divisions I, II and III trying to hit qualifying marks for the ECAC and national championships. Various post-collegiate athletes also took part in the competition.

MADISON, N.J. – On Wednesday morning, the Landmark Conference office released its 2011 baseball all-conference selections and USMMA freshman Warren Hartmann was named to the All-Conference First Team as a second baseman. In addition, the Wyckoff native was honored with the league’s Rookie of the Year award.

With the win, the Dolphins improved to 17-23 overall. Following the loss, the Mariners fell to 15-15-1 overall.
