Shaun Ihasz begins his first season as the Director of Athletic Communications at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2012-13.  Ihasz will handle the media relations and sports information activities for the Mariners 22 varsity programs, including the day-to-day operation of www.USMMASports.com.

Ihasz comes to Kings Point after serving five years in the Athletic Communications department at Division I Sacred Heart University, including three years as the Assistant Director.  He provided coverage and support for the Pioneers around the country, acting as SID for six Northeast Conference Championship teams as well as at five NCAA Tournament events.  Ihasz has also been an administrator and media contact at numerous NEC Championships and Tournaments.

In his tenure at SHU, Ihasz played a key role in the redesign and launch of Sacred Heart’s athletic website, www.SacredHeartPioneers.com.  He also spearheaded the development of the Pioneers’ social and new media platforms.  Ihasz is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A native of Coram, NY, Ihasz graduated from Sacred Heart in 2008 with Bachelor’s in Sport Management and Business Administration.  Faculty members awarded him the Gold Medal of Excellence in Sport Management during the undergraduate commencement ceremony.  Ihasz received his Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from SHU’s John F. Welch College of Business in 2010.

Ihasz was also a four-year letter-winner for Sacred Heart’s nationally ranked men’s bowling team.  He is the oldest of nine children and now resides in Port Washington, NY.
