Kahl, Ney, Spinnenweber And Jordan Announced As Skyline Scholar-Athletes Of The Year

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Aug. 13, 2019) – The Skyline Conference recently announced that four Mariners were named Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports for the 2018-19 school year – Christopher Kahl '19 (Solomons, Md.) of men's swimming & diving, Sam Ney '19 (Vicenza, Italy) of men's soccer, Andrew Spinnenweber '19 (Pasadena, Md.) of baseball and then-freshman Lucas Jordan (Littleton, Colo.) of men's cross country.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented to the First Team All-Conference performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.

Kahl, the 2017-18 men's swimming and diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, repeated after winning the 100- (52.59) and 200-yard (1:54.08) backstroke events at the 2019 Skyline championship, while also swimming the lead-off leg on the record-setting 200-yard medley relay (1:34.30) at the event.

Ney was named to CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 Team following a season in which he helped the Mariners (conference-best 14 goals allowed) to a Skyline Conference championship final appearance from his right back position.

Spinnenweber, the Skyline's Pitcher of the Year, was a first-team American Baseball Coaches Association all-region selection after going 6-0 with a 1.31 ERA and 67 strikeouts in his senior campaign.

Jordan had a strong start to his collegiate career with the Mariners, as he placed second at the 2018 Skyline Conference Men's Cross Country Championship at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome with an 8k time of 27:49.44.
