Four Spring Student-Athletes Land On Respective Sports’ Skyline Weekly Honor Rolls

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 28, 2017) – The Skyline Conference announced their weekly award winners Monday evening and four USMMA student-athletes earned recognition on their respective sports' weekly honor rolls – senior James Hicks (Haddon Heights, N.J.) for tennis, junior pitcher Justus Martin (Eaton, Colo.) for baseball, classmate Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) for men's lacrosse and sophomore Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) for women's lacrosse.

Hicks led the Mariners to a 2-1 week, as the squad picked up 9-0 wins over Lehman on Tuesday and Skyline opponent Sage on Sunday, with a 9-0 setback at home on Thursday against Drew. The senior had a 2-1 record in both doubles and singles action – winning 8-4 (Lehman) and 8-0 (Sage) in doubles and in 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in the two singles victories, both of which clinched the team wins for Merchant Marine.

Martin threw 10 shutout innings last week, en route to a pair of shutout wins for the Mariners – 10-0 at Baruch on Tuesday and 6-0 at Purchase on Sunday. He earned his first win of the season (and first Skyline victory) on Sunday with eight strong innings, allowing just three hits with two strikeouts. Martin also tossed two innings on Tuesday, giving up just two hits and striking out one.

Treon tied for the team lead over two games last week with eight points on five goals and three assists. He found the back of the net three times and added two assists in a 13-8 road win at Manhattanville on Wednesday night and then scored twice with one helper in a 12-10 home loss to Montclair on Saturday. The junior also led the Mariners with five groundballs and three caused turnovers on Saturday. This is the second week this season that Treon landed on the Skyline weekly honor roll (also on March 6).

Willard scored three times in USMMA's 14-5 home loss to New Paltz on Saturday. It was the third-straight game to start the season that the sophomore found the back of the net at least three times. She also picked up one groundball and one draw control, while causing one turnover. This is the second week this season the Willard was honored by the Skyline, as she was also the Player of the Week back on March 6.
