Tirrito ’16 And Green Named 2015-16 ECAC Division III Scholar-Athletes Of The Year

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2016) – Last night, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) held its annual Honors Dinner at the Matrix Conference & Banquet Center near its headquarters in Danbury, Conn., to honor the league's 2015-16 award winners. Among the recipients of the numerous awards given out last night were two USMMA student-athletes, former men's lacrosse standout Rob Tirrito '16 and current women's swimming & diving senior captain Jolyn Green (Riverside, Calif.).

Tirrito and Green took home the ECAC's Division III Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Awards. They were nominated by the USMMA Athletic Department after being chosen by the Academy's Athletic Awards Committee as the school's nominees in a meeting back in May. To honor their selections, the Academy awarded them the Institutional ECAC Scholar-Athlete Award at the Awards Convocation in June.

Tirrito was a four-year starter, team captain and team academic captain for the Mariner men's laxers during his senior year at Kings Point. He played in 54 games over his career and finished with 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points. The Centerport, N.Y., native also scooped up 50 groundballs and caused nine turnovers over his four years. He graduated with a Marine Systems Engineering degree in June 2016. He is currently out sailing and was unable to attend the reception last night.

Green was voted by her teammates as the women's swim & dive team captain late last year. In her three years swimming, she has broken 13 Academy records and currently still holds five of those records. Green had reached the Finals (Top-8) in her events 19 times at the Landmark Conference Championships, including seven times in 2015-16, and she finished as high as second place in the 200 individual medley this past season. She has also finished in the Top-24 at the highly competitive Metropolitan Championships 20 times and was in the Top-8 Finals twice at the event this past February. In the classroom, Green is working towards a degree in Marine Engineering and Shipyard Management.
