KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 18, 2016) – The six U.S. Merchant Marine Academy spring teams garnered a total of 23 student-athletes, collectively, on the Landmark Conference Spring Honor Roll, the league announced on Tuesday morning. In total, 418 student-athletes received recognition from the conference's nine institutions.
The Honor Roll recognizes all spring student-athletes who have reached sophomore standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Each of the six USMMA teams had at least one of its student-athletes represented on the list.
The baseball team led the way with nine of its players recognized on the list – seniors Brad and Jeff Suciu (Zanesville, Ohio) and Grant Foley (Butler, Pa.), juniors Matthew Thomson (Memphis, Tenn.), Patrick Morgan (Roxboro, N.C.) and Rick Kernan (Blythewood, S.C.) and sophomores Alex Gambino (Haddonfield, N.J.), Justus Martin (Eaton, Colo.) and Michael Barnes (Alexandria, Va.).
The men's lacrosse team was next with five student-athletes honored – seniors Eric Kennedy (Massapequa, N.Y.), Rob Tirrito (Centerport, N.Y.) and Stephen Magretti (Tappan, N.Y.), junior Dan McGovern (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Elijah Cherry (Houston, Texas).
The men's track & field team had four team members listed – seniors Michael Dittmer (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Nathan Robbins (Los Alamos, N.M.) and sophomores Austin MacElrevey (Lewes, Del.) and Tyler Hartman (St. George, Utah).
The tennis team boasted three student-athletes that were recognized – senior Josh Levitas (Huntingtown, Md.), junior Jordan Kendall (Winter Haven, Fla.) and sophomore Katherine Mason (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Finally, both the women's track & field team and the women's lacrosse team had one team member honored, apiece. Track & field was represented by sophomore Mache' Mason (Dallas, Texas), while lacrosse senior Rachel Smith (Broomfield, Colo.) was praised on the list.
