Four Mariners Named to Landmark All-Academic Team

Towson, MD – Senior Michael Ackerman (Malvern, PA), junior Danny Collins (Sleepy Hollow, NY), sophomore Elizabeth Coulter (Thousand Oaks, CA), and senior Gretchen Holoubek (Severna Park, MD) were all named to the Landmark Conference All-Academic Team for their outstanding classroom performance during the 2013 spring season:

Michael Ackerman (Men’s Lacrosse) scored the game winning goal in the Landmark Conference semifinals against top-seeded Goucher.  He served as a team captain in his senior season and currently ranks 10th academically in the class of 2013 at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Danny Collins (Baseball) was named First Team All-Landmark this season.  He was also chosen as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First-Team selection.  Collins finished the season with a team-leading 39 RBI and ranked second in the Landmark Conference with a .403 batting average.

Elizabeth Coulter (Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) competed in the 5000 meter event at the Landmark Conference Championships immediately after returning from her time at sea. She is a two-time All-Academic Team member after earning honors last fall as well.

Gretchen Holoubek (Women’s Outdoor Track & Field) reached ECAC qualifying standards in the 5000 meters this season. She set seven new Academy records in the 2012-13 season including four outdoor events.  Holoubek has been named to the All-Academic Team all three seasons this year.

The top two male and female student-athletes from each of the eight Landmark institutions who compete in any of the Landmark Conference spring sports, being of at least sophomore standing or higher, with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA are eligible for the All-Academic Team.

The conference will begin releasing the names of their Senior Scholar Athletes in each sport beginning June 3rd.
